It is nice to think that scientific progress is rational and clean, but it's not the way it works. Kuhn's The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, a 1962 essay seeking to explain changes in scientific belief over time. Maybe Thursday is my “old book day”, but Thomas Kuhn's 1962 book The Structure of Scientific Revolutions is a must-read for anyone in science. Curious where the term originated, I was led to Thomas S. {There\'s a "Frank & Ernest" comic strip showing a chick breaking out of its shell, looking around, and saying, "Oh, wow! Paradigm shift!" Blame the late Thomas Kuhn. They are anomalies or equipment malfunctions. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the original publication of Thomas Kuhn's famous book, The Structure of Scientific Revolutions. I just arrived in Chicago where I will be attending a conference on Thomas Kuhn's The Structure of Scientific Revolutions at the University of Chicago beginning tomorrow. That in most cases, the way real breakthroughs happen is by chance. It's 50 years this year since the publication of one of the biggest-selling philosophy books of all time, and in my opinion one of the major works of philosophy of the last century, Kuhn's STRUCTURE. The Structure of Scientific Revolutions does expose a widely disseminated, and patently simplistic, myth about the progress of science.
